Astronomers Amazed At Dazzling Comet

This link from my friend Olli-Pekka. In ancient times
comets were once thought to be the harbingers of doom,
signalling an end to the reign of kings and bringing
with them the promise of plagues and pestilence. Much of
the superstition surrounding comets may have disappeared
with the increase in scientific knowledge, but the
heavens are still capturing the minds of many in our
world today. A comet in the constellation of Perseus is
causing quite a fuss. Comet
Holmes remained virtually undetectable until October
24th, when it increased in brightness by a million times
within the space of a few hours. The comet can now be
seen by the naked eye, and its dust cloud continues to
expand
to where it is now half the diameter of the
moon.
Quote: "The comet, which
follows an unusual orbit between Mars and Jupiter, is a
million times brighter than normal, according to Sky and
Telescope Magazine. Comet Holmes has undergone a
dramatic, and unexplained, increase in size. It is now
visible easily to the naked eye as a brilliant ball in
the north east night sky. Its sudden activity -- the
comet began its outburst Oct. 24 -- has captured the
imagination of amateur astronomers around the world,
including Ottawa's Shane Finnigan. On every clear night
for the past week, sometimes past midnight, Mr. Finnigan
has been in his backyard, watching the comet through his
120-millimetre telescope. "It just keeps getting bigger
and bigger," said Mr. Finnigan, 43, a member of the
Ottawa Valley Astronomy and Observers Group. "This is
the talk of everybody in astronomy right now because
it's quite an unusual comet."
The book of Genesis tells us that the heavens were
created to mark signs, seasons, days and years (Genesis
1:14). We have a few signs already mentioned in the
Scriptures, for example the Magi saw "His star" in the east, announcing
the birth of the King of the Jews (Matthew 2:2). The
Lord also states that the days prior to His Second
Coming would be characterized by signs in the
heavens.
Luke 21:25-26 And there shall
be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars;
and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity;
the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them
for fear, and for looking after those things which are
coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be
shaken.
The thought just occurred to me... Just as the Lord's
birth was marked by a dramatic event in the heavens -
the appearance of a new star or perhaps supernova as
some have thought, perhaps the Lord's Second Coming to
earth will also be marked by a similar event in the
heavens. Following the time of Jacob's trouble, the Lord
states in Matthew 24:30 that there shall appear the
"sign of the Son of Man" in
heaven. And when those dwelling on earth witness this
sign, they will realize that the coming of the King of
Kings and Lord of Lords is at hand. Whatever that sign
is, it seems it will be clearly distinguishable to those
on earth as being "His sign". And then shall all the
tribes of earth mourn. Why? Because He is coming back to
judge the world in righteousness, and they have left it
too late. Present day events reveal to us how close we
are to Christ's Second Coming to the earth. But I
believe their remains no prophecy to be fulfilled before
Christ's coming to the air for His Church. Are you part
of the Bride of Christ? Have your sins been forgiven
through faith in Jesus Christ? Don't leave it too
late.
Matthew 25:10-12 And while
they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they
that were ready went in with him to the
marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the
other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he
answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you
not.
