A San Francisco-based homosexual organization that has run "Revival
Bingo" and whose members have taken communion in a Catholic church in full
costume regalia chose Resurrection Sunday to stage its 2008 "hunky Jesus"
competition.
"This behavior is shameful," said a commentator on the Roman Catholic blog,
which has monitored the activities of the "Sisters of Perpetual
Indulgence" in prior events.
"It's meant to scandalize and offend people, and those responsible
certainly succeed in that regard," the blog said. "The blasphemy you see
is one of the ways these people seek to reinforce their fantasy that God
is either a myth or indifferent to their lifestyle choices, no matter how
obviously unnatural (at least to anyone who is not bereft of what should
be common sense). Those who insist that acts of blasphemy and indecency,
and shameless acts of perversion are harmless – or even acts of virtue –
do so because of moral blindness resulting from obstinacy in evil…"
The "hunky Jesus" event features scantily clad men dressing up as theme
Jesus characters, such as "hula Jesus," or "Michaelangelo's Jesus" in a
public park. Many of these performed a strip show and ended up wearing
little more than a G-string.
WND
reported earlier when members of the group attended a Catholic church
and took communion, when the group sponsored a "Revival Bingo" event, and
when the group appeared in a parade advertised with a re-creation of the
"Last Supper," featuring sex toys on the table and leather-clad men and
women substituting for the disciples.
Reuters reported San Franciscans "flocked to Dolores Park in the city
to compete in, or watch, … the 'Hunky Jesus' competition." The report said
"the contest pits costumed and usually scantily clad men against each
other for the distinction of being declared the most attractive
Jesus."
The Roman Catholic
blog posted a YouTube video of the event, but viewers are advised it
is presentable neither for children nor families.
The blog continued: "Whatever their fantasies, this is reality:"
Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God.
(Matthew 5:8)
But we know that the law is good, if a man use it
lawfully: Knowing this, that the law is not made for the just man, but
for the unjust and disobedient, for the ungodly, and for sinners, for
the wicked and defiled, for murderers of fathers, and murderers of
mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for them who defile themselves
with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and
whatever other thing is contrary to sound doctrine, which is according
to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which hath been committed
to my trust. (1 Timothy 1:8-11)
Be not deceived: God is not
mocked; for whatever a man shall sow, that also shall he reap.
(Galatians 6:7)
Know you not that the unjust shall not possess
the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor liers with mankind, nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor railers, nor extortioners, shall possess
the kingdom of God. And such some of you were; but you are washed, but
you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, and the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
And I
saw a great white throne, and one sitting upon it, from whose face the
earth and heaven fled away, and there was no place found for them. And I
saw the dead, great and small, standing in the presence of the throne,
and the books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the
book of life; and the dead were judged by those things which were
written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the
dead that were in it, and death and hell gave up their dead that were in
them; and they were judged every one according to their works. And hell
and death were cast into the pool of fire. This is the second death. And
whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the
pool of fire. (Revelation 20:11-15)
The blogger wrote that the Bible presents homosexuality "as acts of
grave depravity" and tradition has declared those acts are "intrinsically
disordered."
The blogger operates under the pen name Thomistic.
"Homosexuality is a pervasive evil in our time. It is celebrated unlike
ever before in human history. Entire cable networks now exist to cater to
homosexuals. Homosexual marriages and/or civil unions are legal in Britain
and other places in Europe, as well as in Massachusetts and Vermont," he
wrote. "Homosexuals are demanding homosexual marriage, showing up at
Easter egg hunts on the White House lawn, going to communion in rainbow
sashes, and promoting movies like Brokeback Mountain…
"There has been an active campaign among homosexuals, many in the
media, and those on the political left (as well as the 'Log Cabin
Republicans' on the right), to change the cultural perception of
homosexuality. This isn't a wild conspiracy theory, it is a verifiable,
documented fact. The article, 'How
'gay rights' is being sold to America' is just one example of such
documentation," he wrote.
"Propaganda masked as entertainment is also being utilized to the same
end, namely, getting people to not only accept homosexuality, but to
protect and defend it," he said.
Anthony Padua responded to the Maximus blog: "How appalling. If anyone
would like to see a preview of Hell, simply watch the video. Blasphemies
go on unabated in those flames, just as went on in this charade in San
Francisco.
On the video, one of the announcers asks a "hunky Jesus" competitor,
"Are you gay or straight." When the second man answers, "Straight," the
announcer says, "Not for the next 15 minutes you're not."
In another incident of mockery, a "nun" with a white-painted face bends
over at the waist with his back to another "actor," and says, "What would
Jesus do?"
"Absolutely nauseating!" added Catholic Crusader.
"This is a public event at a public park. If the Sisters of Perpetual
Indulgence were to mock Islam or Judaism would they be able to get away
with it…?" added Mona Alona.
One other forum participant suggested considering what outrage there
would be following a "Hunky Martin Luther King Content" on MLK Day.
